E-Scooter Mankeel Pioneer in the Test: Extremely robust and with exchangeable battery

The Mankeel Pioneer is also available as a sharing model. Accordingly, it is particularly robust, comes with puncture-proof tires and a removable battery. We tested him.

Assembly

The handlebars of the Mankeel Pioneer are initially completely separate from the handlebars. For assembly, you have to fumble the brake cables through the appropriate guide and screw them to the drum brakes. This is not so easy and difficult to do alone, we needed two people for it.

Handlebars

Everything on the Mankeel Pioneer is designed to be as durable as possible. Finally, a slightly modified version is also to be used as a sharing model. The powerful brake levers for the drum brakes on the front and rear wheels dominate the handlebars. Adjusted correctly, they grip perfectly.

The rubberized grab handles feel solid and good. A ring bell is hidden on the left side, and the throttle lever for the thumb is on the right side.

The large display in the middle shows, among other things, the total kilometers drove, the speed and the battery charge level with five bars. It reflects strongly. It is therefore almost impossible to read in direct sunlight. The only button below the display switches the e-scooter on and off, controls the light and the support level.

Tires

The front wheel has excellent suspension. That’s a good thing because the 10-inch honeycomb tires are made entirely of plastic. By doing without pneumatic tires, the e-scooter does not absorb bumps, stones and potholes. The tires are entirely puncture-proof. The rear wheel is not sprung. This is sufficient for driving through urban areas, but the driver is shaken up on dirt roads.

Succeed

The manufacturer specifies a maximum payload of 120 kilograms. Its dimensions are 125 x 53 x 126 centimeters when unfolded and 121 x 53 x 56 centimeters when folded. The battery unit is water and dust resistant according to IP68, the e-scooter itself according to IP55.

The rubber running board is 53 centimeters long and 13 centimeters wide. It also offers enough stepping surfaces for taller people. In general, the Mankeel Pioneer is well suited for tall people, since the handlebars are also exceptionally high.

Battery pack

Next to the charging port, which is protected by a rubber flap, there is a small button for releasing the battery. This then folds out a few centimeters from the running board and can be removed for loading and changing.

The battery itself has a capacity of 480-watt hours. The manufacturer states that the e-scooter can travel more than 40 kilometers with one battery charge. But that is measured under ideal conditions. The real range depends on many factors. We assume about 30 kilometers.

Apartment

The Mankeel Pioneer comes with an optional app. The user can make extensive adjustments there. For example, the e-scooter reacts to the throttle from a standing start. In addition, the maximum speed can be set to 30 kilometers per hour.

Drive

The rear motor has a rated output of 500 watts and a peak output of up to 800 watts. Thanks to its powerful performance, the Mankel Pioneer quickly accelerates even heavier riders to its maximum speed, which is initially 25 kilometers per hour. Overall, the e-scooter drives very well. Nothing wobbles here, everything seems stable and made of one piece. However, it is not very maneuverable, you cannot turn the handlebars hard. This doesn’t bother you when driving, but when you push the e-scooter around tight corners.

Price

The Pioneer costs a good 899.99 USD at Mankeel (purchase link). There are no shipping costs or taxes, free shipping.

Price

An adapted version of the Mankeel Pioneer is also used as a sharing model. Accordingly, it is trimmed in every detail to be particularly robust.

Its large tires are made of plastic and are accordingly puncture-proof. The good suspension on the front wheel reliably absorbs small bumps. However, the e-scooter is less suitable for fast journeys on country lanes. The engine is strong, the top speed can be set at up to 30 kilometers per hour. The two drum brakes grip well and bring the e-scooter to a standstill quickly and reliably. A commendable feature is a removable battery, which you can take with you to charge at home.
